ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam conducted ‘Upskilling and Entrepreneurship Development Programme’ for SC farmers from Bharanikkavu and Devikulangara Grama Panchayath during 20^th November to 19^th December 2023. The farmers were upskilled on scientific aspects of coconut cultivation including varietal wealth, hybridization cum nursery management, layering, budding and grafting techniques, palm agro-techniques, water and nutrient management, bioinoculants, systems-approach, pest and disease diagnosis, management and mass production of bioagents. Method demonstrative techniques and practical exposure on mushroom production, value addition in coconut as well as bee-keeping and bee-based products were conducted. Hands on practical session on coconut climbing, spraying operations, hybridization were provided as part of upskilling programme. Awareness sessions on schemes for Scheduled Caste youth, preparation of projects and financial management in agriculture were handled by experts. One-day study tour cum exposure visit was undertaken to ICAR-CTCRI, Sreekariyam and State Soil Museum and State Soil Information Centre, Parottukonam near Thiruvananthapuram. Agricultural inputs such as disease tolerant coconut seedlings, vegetable seeds, spade, prong hoe, neem cake, vermicompost, fertilizers, Kalpa Poshak, Kera Probio, Metarhizium majus, etc. were distributed to the trainees.
