ICAR-CPCRI Regional Station, Kayamkulam in collaboration with Coconut Development Board, Kochi,celebrated World Coconut Day and National Teachers’ Day on 05-09-2023.The theme of this year’s World Coconut Day was ‘Coconuts: Transforming Lives’.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr.C.K. Peethambaran, Retired Director of Research, KAU. Dr. P. Anithakumari, Acting Head, ICAR-CPCRI, RS, Kayamkulam was the chairperson of the session.

Dr. A. Abdul Haris, Principal Scientist, led the interactive session with the farmers.Dr. C.K. Peethambaran, Dr. D. Alexander (Retired Director of Research, KAU), Dr. Sverup John (Retired Dean,Faculty of Agriculture, KAU), Dr. Shylaja S. (Retired Professor (Agricultural Extension), Dr. Arthur Jacob (RetiredAssociated Director of Research (Southern Region), Dr. A.V. Mathew (Retired Associate Director of Research, RARS, Kumarakom)acted asthe panelists during the technical session in farmers seminar.

The retired teachers from KAU who significantly contributed to the development of coconut farming in Kerala were honoured during the programme. ‘Kalpasthupam’, reminiscence for commemorating the legacy of 75 years of service to coconut farming community was unveiled during the event. Sixty farmersparticipated in the programme.

The activities included farmers’ seminar, farmer-scientist interaction, exposure visits to the Institute, CPCs and FPOs, and competitions for staff members.
