A team of scientists from ICAR-CPCRI comprising of Dr. Vinayaka Hegde, Dr. C. Thamban and Dr. Anok Uchoi conducted diagnostic field visits to arecanut gardens in Laitumsaw and Umsawrang villages under Mawsynram block of East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya on 25.04.2023. The major field problems experienced by arecanut growers of the localities were identified as crown rot and bud rot diseases of arecanut. The team of scientists was accompanied by extension personnel from Directorate of Horticulture, Meghalaya. A scientist-farmer interface programme on scientific cultivation practices of arecanut with emphasis on integrated disease management and integrated nutrient management practice was also conducted. Urgent plant protection measures to control the crown rot and bud rot disease of arecanut palms were discussed during the programme.
