A training programme on ‘Varietal wealth in arecanut and integrated pest and disease management in arecanut’ sponsored by the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development (DASD), Calicut, was organized at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Vittal on 23.12.2022 in connection with the Farmers’ Day celebrations.

Shri. N. Shashi Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address. He noticed some of the difficulties arecanut growers had, such as the labour shortage in agriculture, and believed that young people needed to be inspired to pursue careers in agriculture. Shri. Roopesh Rai Alimar, District Coordinator, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene, Dakshina Kannada, delivered the presidential address.

The brief introductory session was followed by the technical session. Following that, the attendees also had an interactive session and a quiz competition. There were more than 120 people present to witness the occasion.
