As part of the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) programme of ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), organic cultivation vegetables in homesteads of 1000 SC families in Kayamkulam Municipality was initiated by KVK-Alappuzha. Good quality seeds of five vegetable crops bought from ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru were distributed to these families identified by the municipal councilors. The programme was inaugurated by Adv. U.Prathibha, Hon. MLA, Kayamkulam and was attended by Smt. P.Sasikala, Municipal Chairperson, Sri. J.Adarsh, Municipal Vice chairperson, Smt. Regeena Jacob, Asst. Dir (Agri), and other councilors. Dr.P.Muralidharan, Head, KVK briefed on the proposed project activities and ensured follow up technology support through training programmes and field visits. Sri.M.S.Rajeev and Smt. G.Lekha, SMSs oriented the farmers on homestead vegetable cultivation and coordinated the programme in which fifty farmers selected from different wards of the municipality attended.
