Coconut Hybrid Seedling Production Approach

Training cum awareness program on ‘Technology enabled participatory coconut hybrid seedling approach’ was conducted at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 12.10.2022. The program was conducted as a part of Farmer FIRST Project (FFP) of ICAR and Kalpa Vajra (Platinum Jubilee)celebrations of ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam.

Smt.L.Usha, Hon’ble President, Pathiyoor Grama Panchayat inaugurated the training programme followed by a brief introduction by Dr. P. Anithakumari, Acting Head highlighting the significant milestones and achievements of ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam.

A total of 92 participants including people’s representatives, officials from Department of Agriculture (Govt. of Kerala) and farmer representatives from three panchayats viz., Pathiyoor, Devikulangara (Alappuzha District) and Oachira (Kollam District) participated in the training programme.

The objective of the training cum awareness program is to upscale the quality coconut planting material production especially hybrid seedlings using the innovative modified ground pollination technique. The program will be implemented in these three panchayats as farmer participatory approach.

The training was coordinated by Dr. M. Shareefa (Senior Scientist) & Dr. Regi Jacob Thomas (Principal Scientist).

The modified ground pollination technique was recommended for technology commercialization during the 50th Institute Research Council meeting of ICAR-CPCRI.
