Dec 23, 2021 : CPCRI-KASARAGOD | Author:Web AdminNational Farmers Day, marking the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of independent India, Sri. Choudhari Charan Singh, was celebrated as an awareness cum interactive online workshop on 23/12/2021 at ICAR-CPCRI, RS, Kayamkulam. The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr.S.Kalavathi, Acting Head, ICAR-CPCRI,RS, Kayamkulam. In her inaugural address, the role of coconut based cropping system on carbon sequestration and need for the development of climate resilient technologies in the wake of climate change was highlighted. The technical session on ‘Fortification of agro wastes for pest repulsion’ was handled by Dr.A.Joseph Rajkumar, Principal Scientist (Entomology). The role of metarhizium enriched Trichoderma, phytosanitory measures, and ecological engineering strategies for pest regression were covered in the session. The topic ‘Crop residue recycling practices for coconut cultivation’ was handled by Dr. S. Indhuja, Scientist (Microbiology). The recycling techniques such as coconut leaf vermicomposting, husk burial, urea free coir pith composting, biochar application in agriculture were elaborately covered in the lecture. In the interaction session with the participants, Dr.A.Abdul Haris, Principal Scientist (Agronomy) addressed farmer querries. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr.Jeena Mathew, Dr. Abdul Haris, Dr.A.Joseph Rajkumar and Dr.S.Kalavathi.
