World Environment Day celebrated at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam
Jun 07, 2021 : ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam | Author:webadminAs part of the World Environment Day celebrations 2021, a Virtual Interactive Workshop on the theme: “Ecosystem restoration” was conducted at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 7th June 2021. More than 100 students from twenty one colleges represented from all the fourteen districts of Kerala participated in the workshop, which was conducted through Zoom meeting and simultaneously broadcasted through the ICAR-CPCRI YouTube channel.
Dr. S. Kalavathi, Acting head, ICAR-CPCRI, RS, Kayamkulam delivered the welcome speech, wherein she stressed on the importance of changes in our attitude and behavior in our day to day activities in order to minimize damage to the precious natural resources as a step towards the restoration of healthy ecosystem. The special lecture on the topic ‘Restore ecosystem to save our planet’ was delivered by Prof. D. Thankamony, Former Head, Environmental Engineering Division, College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram. She gave a detailed insight into all possible measures to be adopted at individual level to restore the purity of all the natural resources. She stressed the importance of utilizing the natural resources in order to meet the human needs and not for the satisfaction of our greed. Towards the end of the informative lecture she gave a valuable message of fine tuning our activities in accordance with the environmental ethics to protect the natural ecosystem. The lecture was followed by an elocution competition for the students on the topic: ‘Ecosystem restoration’. Dr. Anes K.M., Scientist proposed vote of thanks.
In the afternoon session, the staff members of the station actively participated in the fruit tree planting campaign within the campus by strictly following COVID19 protocols.
