Activities undertaken as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam

In continuation of the year long celebrations in connection with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a digital workshop on the theme: “Cleanliness and rural development through Gandhian ideologies” on 1/10/2020 at ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Regional Station, Kayamkulam.

Apart from the staff of Regional Station, the programme was attended by staff members of ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Sreekaryam and Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur. Dr. S. Kalavathi, Acting Head of the Regional Station, Kayamkulam welcomed the gathering with an exhortation to follow the Gandhian ideologies on cleanliness and rural awakening for buildup of “Clean India” – the unfulfilled dream of Gandhiji - in the wake of the ongoing global crisis due to Covid-19 pandemic.

 

The programme was presided over by Dr. Anitha Karun, Acting Director, ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod. In her presidential address, she stressed the relevance of Gandhian teachings for evolving need-based technologies, by being a responsible citizen of India.

Dr. V. Ravi, Acting Director, ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute delivered the special message to the gathering regarding the importance of Gandhian principles for inclusive nation building via focused research and development.

Sri. K.G. Jagadeesan, National Committee Member, Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi delivered the key note address in the workshop. A noted Gandhian and a Social Activist, he made the audience travel through the path of cleanliness and rural development so as to reach Gandhiji’s dream of “Clean India”. The strategies to be followed in different sectors thrusting on Gandhian principles, to evade the adverse effects of consumerestic culture prevailing in our society and the need for nature friendly technologies in Agriculture were emphasized in his talk. Dr. Jeena Mathew, Scientist proposed vote of thanks for the meeting.
